To install Zotero on your machine, you need to download and install the desktop application, and separately install a broswer plugin.

The desktop application is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, while Browser plugins are available for Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari.

Important Note: You should save your Zotero library to a local folder - i.e. NOT in the cloud (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.) - Zotero has its own cloud backup, and duplicating this risks corrupting your data.

1. Register and Create a Zotero account (this will allow you to use the cloud features and sync your library across multiple devices as well as access your library from any web browser, anywhere, any time). Register here: https://www.zotero.org/user/register

2. Download and install the desktop app - the file is here: https://www.zotero.org/download/#

3. Install the browser plugin of your choice: https://www.zotero.org/download/#

4. Once the Desktop App is installed, go to the 'Edit' menu, select 'Preferences' and then log in using your account credentials to get started with syncing your library to the Zotero cloud.

5. Get started! You will probably have to close and restart your Microsoft Word to activate the Word plugin which is bundled with the Desktop app
