1. Reproduce the Experiment

2. Rāpoi

Rāpoi is our University-wide high-performance computing (HPC) cluster that uses the Slurm resource manager to schedule jobs and reserve resources.

Rāpoi is made up of partitions. A partition is a set of compute nodes (servers) and each partition has its own configuration and hardware profile. The cluster employs the module environment to allow researchers to customise their environment with their required applications and languages.

3. Training

There are a number of options for training for new researchers, or researchers who want to upskill their computational knowledge.

One of the best options is to take a Software Carpentry course. Software carpentry is a worldwide movement that aims to teach basic research computing skills to a wide audience. The Research Capability Team in CAD runs regular Software Carpentry courses on-site. Check out the Calendar to find the next session, or email the team (hayden.thorne@vuw.ac.nz).

Depending on timing, check out the annual ResBaz event - held every year in June, featuring 40+ free, online digital research skills sessions.

You are also welcome to get in touch with any of the CAD Team to discuss bespoke training.

4. Ongoing Support

Research Computing is primarily supported by the Research Capability Team in CAD - though you might also want to consider whether there are other researchers in your school or faculty who use these tools. Often the most effective support can be provided by colleagues or a group of like-minded researchers who can share their knowledge.
