The first step in effective reading is to identify questions which can guide you. Determining your purpose will help you to stay focused on the information you need to find while reading.

You may notice that your purpose for reading will determine your focus. Depending on your purpose, you may decide that some reading tasks can be considered "light" while others are more "serious".
